🌊 What is DP Sea Time?

DP Sea Time is the practical offshore experience gained while serving onboard a Dynamic Positioning vessel under the Nautical Institute Offshore Certification Scheme. It represents the practical part of your DP training. Simply completing the DP Induction and Simulator Courses is not enough. Practical offshore experience is equally important.

⏱️ How Many Hours Count as One DP Day?

According to the Nautical Institute, a minimum of 2 hours of qualifying DP activity during a calendar day counts as one DP Sea Time Day. Even if you spend 8, 10, or 12 hours operating in DP mode, you can only record one DP Day for that calendar day.

✅ Active vs Passive DP Days Ratio

Active DP Days are the most valuable days in your DP Logbook (Watchkeeping, FMEA Trials, Annual Trials). According to the NI Offshore Scheme, at least 75% of your qualifying DP Sea Time should consist of Active DP Days. Passive DP Days are training days where you are learning onboard. The scheme allows a maximum of 30 Passive Days, and these can only be counted during Phase B.
