A DP Equipment Class defines how much redundancy is built into a vessel's Dynamic Positioning system. Simply put, redundancy means having backup systems that keep the vessel on position if a component fails. The higher the DP Class, the greater the level of protection against equipment failures.
🟢 DP Class 1 (DP1)
DP Class 1 (DP1) is the most basic level of Dynamic Positioning. These vessels have limited redundancy, meaning a single equipment failure may cause the vessel to lose position. Suitable for lower-risk operations where temporary loss of position is acceptable.

Critical systems are physically separated into completely different watertight and A60 fire-isolated compartments.
